“The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my hearts exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.” (Psalm 28:7)
This is our confidence and comfort when things are hard, when we feel like life is against us. These are the things to remember. These are things to rejoice in.
The Lord is our strength. We don’t have the strength on our own. We rely on Him.
He is our shield. He protects us from danger, from temptation, from evil. That doesn’t mean life will be smooth all the time. But it does mean that nothing can keep us from being with God, through the Lord Jesus. And it means that all the bad things we suffer can be seen as the discipline of our Heavenly Father, teaching us right from wrong, teaching us to trust Him, teaching us to value His kingdom more than our lives.
We trust in him from our heart. We can speak of how He has helped us.
“My heart exults” – that means swells up, overflowing with praise.
And because He is all this to us, that’s why we sing with thanks to Him.
Singing to God is right. It shows how much we love Him, how much we appreciate His love and care for us as our Heavenly Father. Never be embarrassed to sing to God and about God, our Heavenly Father, who saved us through the Lord Jesus, and who protects, strengthens and helps us.
